Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (CECG) respectfully acknowledges the ancestors of this Country and pays respect to their descendants as custodians of this land. Indigenous Education Advisory Committee
The Indigenous Education Advisory Committee (IEAC), in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities, support schools to deliver high-quality education for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in our Catholic schools.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategy supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they deepen their Faith and enrich their cultural identity as Australia’s First Peoples. The partnership also supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and teachers to meet their full learning potential, and ensure they achieve educational success and are empowered to shape their own future.
The IEAC meets to discuss issues of importance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers with children in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. The Committee comprises representation from Aboriginal Education CECG, school staff (systemic and non-systemic), community members/Elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents/carers.
The Committee
- Supports the development of strong partnerships with families, schools, parent associations, the Catholic Education Office and local communities.
- Seeks to give an additional voice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers in state and national level decision-making affecting Catholic schools.
- Develops resources to support the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- Continues to promote reconciliation.
