Selina Walker
Council Chair
I am a local Ngunnawal woman from Canberra/Yass and have been working in the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community for many years, and have held numerous roles within that time working with our families.
I have been involved in the CSPACG since the beginning of 2018 and am keen to assist our Catholic families to better help our students and strengthen the voice of parents/carers and families.
I care for my three godsons, all of whom attend Catholic schools in Canberra, plus my goddaughter and I do a variety of volunteer work with the kids' schools to emphasise and promote Aboriginal culture and education.
I enjoy netball, basketball and watching rugby league. I also enjoy doing Aboriginal artwork and meditation.
I am passionate about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs and strive for equality, sovereignty and recognition of our skills, culture and contribution to this Country. I am a strong activist for our young people and preparing our future leaders.
I would like to see the Council grow and to be recognised as an active and engaged group that is consulted with to ensure parent and carer voice is incorporated into everything.
I believe that family engagement is about including parents/carers in all things school related and providing opportunities to assist in student outcomes. Our children do better when our families are engaged and present in our schools.
